My favorite anime that have watched so far? Wow, that's difficult. A few years ago, I'd have said Death Note for sure but then I watched Toaru Majutsu no Index. Then I watched Index's side story, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (which was much better than I was I led to believe) and read the manga. And then I watched K Project.
Yes I know K Project gets hate because it's got cute boys, yaoi subtexts everywhere, and supposedly "no plot" (even though it's actually a murder mystery/clan war) and yes I have favorite ship from K but I honestly love the story and wish they'd do more the Kings and clans. I do dislike the anime was short and the real character development was done in side mangas, novels, and drama CD's.
If you just watch the anime of course you aren't going to get much out of it at all. As someone who was excited for this series before it came out and was already invested in what little was shown of the characters in the first few chapters of the Memory of Red manga before the first episode was even released, yeah, it's bad form to hide a lot of important stuff in mangas and novels and K did exactly that.
But, as I said, I was hooked from the first chapter of Memory of Red and read it along with the anime. Even though I love the K Project anime as is, I think it could have been done better so it would appeal to more than just a) people who happened to have read the manga first or b) young yaoi fan girls that just care about eye candy. Now, now, that's not to say yaoi fangirls shouldn't be allowed to have their fun because good lord I have my own self indulgent fun with this fandom. I'm just saying I wish this series could have reached its potential because it has high potential.
Now, if I honestly had to say my favorite anime that I've watched, it's a toss up between K Project and Railgun II, which is currently airing, but I know what happens because I've read the manga. Raildex in general is a really long series and it too has manga, novels, and really long animes. But luckily it's broken into arcs. My favorite Raildex arcs involve Accelerator, of course, as he's my favorite male character. Bonus if said Accelerator arcs involve Misaka (which they almost always do) beause she's my favorite female character.
tl;dr Railgun II and K Project are my favorite animes so far
